How I Learned to Stress-Less and Unlock True Strength
Stress Built My Strength Instead of Breaking Me
Stress isn’t your enemy — it’s your ultimate teacher for endurance and resilience in dealing with the challenges in LIFE.
I felt that pressure firsthand in nursing school, especially during my clinicals at Grady Memorial. With its chaotic environment, missing meds, and broken elevators, every day there was a test of endurance. My terrifying fear of elevators and of heights didn’t help—being assigned to the 13th floor neurology unit meant riding it constantly, a personal nightmare.

Yet the hardest part wasn’t the chaos or the elevator rides. It was learning to manage stress that wouldn’t stop coming. Stress made me feel like I’d break, maybe even quit, but instead, it taught me to focus, compartmentalize, and prioritize what mattered: “the patients”. Every ride down to the basement for medications, every moment spent navigating the madness, I had to shift my mindset. I couldn’t change the situation, but I could change my approach.
Stress-Less: How I Reduced Overwhelming Pressure
The strategies I used didn’t just help me get through—they helped me stress less while doing it. Here’s what made the difference:
• Compartmentalize stress: I learned to set aside the weight of stress so I could focus on what mattered in the moment.
• Shift your mindset: By focusing on the patients and my purpose, I took the pressure off myself and made it about something bigger.
• Embrace routine: Repetition of stressful tasks helped me build resilience. The more I faced it, the less it shook me. Feel less helpless and hopeless.
• Stress as a tool: I realized that stress wasn’t there to break me—it was there to sharpen me and push me toward growth.

When graduation day came, I realized these strategies helped me stress-less and still succeed. The stress I thought would keep me from “my calling” ended up making me stronger. And if I could face daily anxiety, fear, and pressure with those tools, so can you!
Whatever you’re going through, know that it’s not the stress that defines you—it’s how you handle it. Stress-less, and rise stronger.
