You Can’t Fake Roots: The Truth About Staying Grounded When Life Falls Apart
Because fake healing looks good—until the storm hits.
It’s seed season.
You know how I know?
Because my knees are in the dirt, my hands are raw, and my garden is calling.
Again.
Every spring, I find myself back in that same spot - tending, planting, watering, whispering to sprouts like they’re sacred (because they are). I give them what they need. I pull weeds. I check the soil. I pray the roots are strong enough to survive what’s coming.
And then it hits me…
This isn’t just gardening. It’s a damn metaphor for how we survive life.
Because here’s the truth nobody wants to say out loud:
You can’t fake roots.
Not in the ground.
Not in your life.
Not in your healing.
You can plant the prettiest flower.
You can buy all the supplements, do the yoga, post the quotes, light the candles…
But if you’re not rooted deep?
You’ll collapse the minute life throws a storm your way.
And let’s be real - life throws a lot of storms.
So what are you rooted in?
Because if you’re not grounded in something real…
Your truth,
Your health,
Your faith,
Your actual values…
Then you are not stable!
You’re just hoping the winds don’t come.
But they always do.
Ask anyone who’s lost someone.
Faced a diagnosis.
Been blindsided by betrayal.
Woken up and realized the life they built wasn’t built on them.
That’s when you find out what kind of roots you’ve got.
Strong roots don’t just keep you standing…
They grow in the storm.
They dig in deeper when the ground shakes.
They don’t flinch.
They don’t beg.
They hold!
So if you feel shaky right now…
Like your footing’s off.
Like you’re standing alone.
Like no one else sees what you see…
Here’s your invitation: Root down!
• Even if the road’s foggy
• Even if no one gets it
• Even if everything in you wants to run
Root into what you believe.
Root into what heals you - not what’s trendy.
Root into health that makes sense in your body.
Let’s get real for a second.
You don’t need another fluffy “Top 5 Ways to Ground Yourself” list. You need something that actually sticks.
Something that actually works when the floor falls out.
Try this instead:
• Touch the earth. Literally. Bare feet. Hands in the dirt. This isn’t woo woo. It’s electrical. Your body needs that charge.
• Build your own damn ritual. Stop waiting for a perfect morning routine. Pick one thing that calms your body. Do it every day! Make it yours.
• Cut the dead weight. A belief, a behavior, a person, a habit- if it’s choking your roots, it’s gotta go! No guilt. Just growth.
• Name your anchors. Write down three things that hold you steady. Read them out loud. Speak them into your nervous system. Again and again…
• Sit in silence. Ten minutes. Just listen. The roots don’t shout - they whisper. But they’re there, waiting.
Now… let me ask you something.
Think about these like you’re sitting across from me with a cup of something warm, the air thick with honesty:
1. What are you really rooted in- and is it strong enough to hold you?
2. When life shakes you, what keeps you from falling?
3. What beliefs or patterns are you clinging to that might be strangling your growth?
4. How do you want to feel at your core - and what actually gets you there?
5. If your life were a garden, what would you prune, water, or replant today?
Let’s stop pretending surface-level healing is enough.
Let’s get honest.
Get messy.
Dig deep.
Because shallow roots?
They might look pretty…
But they don’t survive the storm.
