Dr Akey, Medical Director of North Florida Integrative Medicine
You Decide | Amendment 4: Arguments against
FOX 35 News+ Garrett Wymer spoke with Dr. Angeli Akey the Medical Director at North Florida Integrative Medicine in Gainesville, Florida and a member of Doctors Against Amendment 4.
Dr. Akey discussed Amendment 4 and provided an argument on why she believes voters should “vote no” on the ballot.
“This Amendment 4 is dangerous for women” states Dr. Akey
Dr. Akey discusses the four main reasons why!
“We want the best healthcare for women”
It would eliminate the definition of doctor out of the equation and replace with “healthcare provider” however NOT defining who they are.
It would eliminate parental consent being replaced with “parental notification” in such cases as “child sex trafficking”.
Loophole- a woman can have an abortion for “patient’s health”, however not defining patient’s health. It could be a simple as “having a headache” during the second or third trimester where these so-called healthcare providers could suggest an abortion and we will start seeing more abortions in the second and third trimester, and she states that they are “painful and dangerous for these women”.
It would be “enshrined permanently” into the Florida Constitution.
Whether you’re pro life or pro choice, these women should get uncompromised care with accurate information to make their decision.
I believe Dr. Akey brings out some valid points that people in the State of Florida need to know that aren’t being defined in Amendment 4, before they select “YES or NO” on the ballot.
When I became a registered nurse almost 30 years ago, we had to take an oath to “do no harm” to a patient, I take that oath very seriously, and so should every healthcare provider!
